The fishkill in Cato, Infanta town in Pangasinan province on Aug. 12, 2021 had been traced to numerous fish cages. The fish inside these cages are fed with artificial feeds. Their residues from these feeds settle at the bottom of the sea and become silt that depletes oxygen and also create murky waters. Due to a lack of oxygen, the fishes die in large numbers and locals refer to that phenomenon as “fish kill.”
